Rocket yourself back to the age of steam and see life more than 100 years ago at our open-air museum!
What an amazing place. Fantastic for people of all ages. There's loads for kids to see and do and experience. It really takes you back in time to how the Victorians lived and worked. The staff are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. I came with my 10 year old and he thoroughly enjoyed it, and has come home with lots of facts and information. He got to change modern money to Victorian coins and enjoyed working out what he needed to use when buying the fabulous freshly baked bread. We are already looking to see when we can visit again. It's a must do if you're in the area!
Huge site, full of fascinating crafts, buildings & history. Volunteers are so friendly & knowledgeable. Lots for kids to do - ours enjoyed changing her money into Victorian coinage & then spending it at the sweet shop and bakery! Nice local drinks in the pub, lots of attractive gifts & souvenirs. Worth getting the pass - you can then visit all the museums in the area and return for a year.
Excellent day out, kids loved it. But very very expensive (kind of like major theme park where everything was extra), I should give them 4 out of 5 given the cost. However, love the shops and the little town overall... great park at the bottom and fairground rides. Some areas need a bit of TLC, would be nice if they had some iron working going on! Favourite bits were the printers, school... kids loved getting involved... like the singers in the pub too
Excellent day out, so much to see and so worth having the passes to go back again! The staff are lovely and welcoming, the kids loved it and the adults too! The play area is also huge and the best I've seen in a while!
Fabulous day out with 2 children aged 8 and 10. Everyone enjoyed themselves including parents. A great feat to have rebuilt these original buildings brick by brick to have them in situ for education and preservation. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and patient with children. Could have stayed for hours.
Such a great site. Took the kids and grandparents and had a great day walking around and learning about the industry and history of the area. Full credit to the staff and volunteers who were knowledgeable and always happy to explain things. Loved the beef dripping cooked chips and a nice walk around the incline plane which used to move boats from the canal down to the river. The site is dog friendly except for three buildings and our dog loved all the attention she received. Will be coming back for another visit.
