Illuminated limestone caves with marine fossils, bones, Blue John mineral mines plus a craft shop.
Brought my 11 year old for a trip down memory lane. Fascinating to see the cavern again and learn so much about the history of our peak district. If your lucky enough to get George as you're guide, you're in for a treat. Absolutely brilliant!
Our Guide was a very knowledgeable person called Chris, he answered every and all questions, and is a witty guy as well. The caverns are absolutely amazing And very interesting, a 100% must visit for everyone. Myself and my wife thoroughly enjoyed it
I knew little if nothing at all about this place, we only chose to visit whilst making the most of the Peak Sightseer Open Top Bus and what a brilliant idea it turned out to be! A lot of stairs/slopes down but well worth the walk back up! Fascinating stuff to be heard from our EXCELLENT tour guide Nigel (I was especially keen on his dad jokes) our 5 year old loved it and I would definitely recommend it for a visit. Just can't believe I've lived in Derbyshire all my 35 years and have never been! Thanks again to Nigel made it a extremely enjoyable experience!
I was probably 8 or so when my parents took me here, I took my kids around the same age. Yesterday as we were near by I took my wife. An absolutely wonderful place, quite unique in many ways. The tour was lead by Nigel whose knowledge, enthusiasm & humour really made the numerous steps worth while. Highly recommended.
The guides were extremely friendly and were very keen to pass on their knowledge, not just of the cavern. But the whole area. With plenty of advice. The tour is really worth it. However, accessibility is restricted to quite a few tight steps down to the lower caverns. So be aware not for those with poor mobility. Personally, my favourite of the 4 show caverns in the area, and is very recommended.
PS19 for an adult's one-hour tour felt a little steep (see what I did there), but the tour was great and worth doing. It's not every day you get to go into the depths of a cave! We didn't buy anything at the gift shop but I now have an appreciation for Blue John. The tour guide was great! By the way, bring something warm to wear down there: it gets cold as you descend. Dogs allowed, but exercise caution if you're on the larger side or if you have breathing issues!
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
