Built in the 18th century, Boom Hall Derry/Londonderry Northern Ireland took its name from being located close to where ships breached the boom across the River Foyle to end the Siege of Derry in 1689. Since being badly damaged and abandoned in 1969, however, it has remained in a dilapidated state with roof, floors and windows all missing which add to the ghostly tales the house possesses. Derry City and Strabane District Council said it is currently identifying "development options" for Boom Hall estate. A design team is producing a conservation plan for the estate. Some of the initiatives are shared on the Boomhall website.
Absolutely spectacular building with a history to match. Me and my sons visit to explore and take aerial photographs every week.
Nice building and amazing views of the bridge around the corner
Played there as a child many moons ago laying idle for decades
I looked up the history of the hall and found it all really interesting. It is a beautiful place with gorgeous walks, the scenery and views are picture perfect . And if you like horses, donkeys, chickens and cows... Its perfect!! Bring the kids for bike rides, don't forget the carrot .
Beautiful site in a beautiful location with good walks. From thr Bay Road Nature Reserve, it is a hilly walk, but very enjoyable as it weaves under the Foyle Bridge.
As a teenager I spent long days on the grounds and gardens of Boom Hall, and the banks of the River Foyle. It had always been a gathering place for locals especially teenagers, but the house itself was unsafe and could only imagine what a wonderful environment it once was to grow up in. Today I still take walks within sight of the estate, unfortunately most of it is out of bounds and would love to see it restored to some of its former glory and remain part of the history of Derry that could be seen and visited more often by the locals and visitors alike.
