Acclaimed garden at a 1700s estate noted for its eclectic topiaries & unique, colourful plantings.
Have visited this garden several times but have to say this is the best we have ever seen it. The mixed borders are stunning at the moment, and there's plenty of colour in containers also. We visit lots of National Trust gardens and privately owned gardens and would say this is the best this year. Will visit again next year, highly recommend a visit. Well done the garden team.
We visited this place in August 2024 and were so impressed with the way the borders were planted. The colour schemes and incredible selection of plants, many of which we hadn't seen before, were amazing. The three acre site is divided up into many different areas by beautifuly clipped yew trees and shrubs and walls, some of which were on different levels. The cafe is set in a very large tithe barn, where there is one large area set aside for a gift shop. A good selection of home made cakes were on offer, as well as a selection of sandwiches made with lovely fresh bread and hot soup was also on offer. Coffee was only filter coffee, but surprisingly good. There are few tables inside the barn, with quite a few more just outside in a quiet corner of the orchard. Toilets were outside, just around the corner from the cafe. There is a walk through a small arboretum and around a field behind the gardens. We spent two hours walking round the gardens and having a sandwich in the orchard, but could easily have spent more time if we'd have done the walk around the field. I've given this venue 5 stars, as we love to visit houses and gardens and this one is right up there on our best gardens to visit. Be aware that there are multiple levels throughout the venue, so wheelchair users would have quite some difficulty getting around and there is also a step over through the doorway into the cafe. Also, dogs are not allowed here. There are no amenities for children or picnic areas. We visited on a weekday and most of the visitors we saw were, like us, seniors. Parking is across a busy road opposite the venue.
A traditional garden that uses tightly clipped hedges to create different gardens that wrap around the house. The different water features are beautiful and calming, the revamped knot garden is a triumph of mixed planting creating a stunning space to sit in. Don't miss the lovely immersive meadow and short arboretum walk. Staff are really friendly and there is a small cafe selling homemade cakes and sandwiches.
We're on a walking tour and stopped here and at Seizencote. If you only have time for one, I suggest Bourton House gardens for the variety of gardens. The white garden was our favorite. The gift shop is nice and the restroom was most welcomed on our stop.
These gardens deserve far more attention than they receive, these are the best we've ever seen, full of colour and variety, I'll let the pictures speak for me.
Stunning gardens and views. Lovely cafe and both inside/outside seating. Cakes were delicious too.
