The first community-run castle in Scotland. This seventeenth century castle is host to dramatic Jacobite tales, delicate Victoriana, cosy furnishings, and a fair few ghosts! Family friendly with activities for children of all ages, and a small but beautiful garden in which to enjoy the sun. Visitors can go around with an audio guide or request a guide (dependent on availability), both included in the entry price. A great way to start your day out in Braemar!
A lovely castle you can enjoy at your own pace while listening to the audio guide. The rooms have interesting stories behind them and the views are amazing. All the staff were very enthusiastic about the castle.
Nice that the castle is run by the local community. No need to book in advance. They provide text or audio tour descriptions and even have photo scavenger hunt for kids.
It's wss closed by the time of the visit. However, it looks stunning and a well manicured lawn and the hut house. I wish to come back and get the tour.
Fantastic to see the castle looking so great! I've often passed by, but this time I had the opportunity to stop and visit. As the castle is independently run by members of the local community, it is wonderfully free of the various intrusive signs and banners you usually see at these types of properties, which makes for great photos and all-round a more pleasant experience. We wandered around at our own leisure using the handy guide but there were plenty of friendly volunteers on site who I'm sure could have answered any questions we may have had. I highly recommend stopping off here for a visit. Car parking charge of PS3.
Beautiful castle with a spooky atmosphere that I personally experienced in room 7. Great friendly staff. A gem for the community who run it.
It was a nice unplanned visit. We were going to hike around Linn of Dee, but it was raining and we decided to visit the Braemar Castle instead. Very helpful leaflet (you can get an audio guide if you prefer listening). Rather than showing medieval interior (like many other places do), this one shows the life of the first half of the 20th century, and it's quite interesting if you stop in every room and read (or listen) the history about it.
