Bridge End Garden was created around 1840 by Francis Gibson, a local Quaker businessman who also built the Fry Art Gallery. Francis' daughter Elizabeth married Lewis Fry of Bristol and in 1918 the Fry family leased the Garden to the local council. It has been open to the public ever since with entrances off Castle Street, Bridge Street and by the Cricket Field. The Garden is open, free to the public, all year except Christmas Day. For the current opening times of the Walled Garden and the Hedge Maze, please contact the Tourist Information Centre on 01799 524002.
Great public gardens (free). Masses of anemones and scillas at this time of year. Several different 'gardens'. Many places to sit, and a large grass area for kids to play. There is also a maze, though this doesn't open until April.
A beautiful garden with the inconspicuous entrance. It's large & interesting enough to spend at least half a day. Highly recommended.
Fabulous, free to visit, well-kept gardens for walking, picnicking, playing with the kids or relaxing. There's a play area, a maze, loads of pretty flowers and features to explore. A superb place to visit in Saffron Walden.
Beautiful gardens, well worth a visit
Lovely gardens. Well worth a visit. Walled garden. A delightful maze.with a viewing platform at its centre. Memorial for ww2 american aviators who served in the area. Local art museum as well, with free entry. A real hidden gem
Went out for the day and visit here the bridge end gardens for a couple of hours. Very nice display of tulips . Saw a cheeky squirrel. And went through the maze which was quite fun. Especially if you had kids. But lovely grounds to walk around . Would have been even better if we came more into the year , so we could see other flowers in bloom . But thus is definitely the place to go for a couple of hours . If you want to get out of the house . I would definitely recommend it to family and friends. Or anyone. And there is a car park 8 mins from the gardens called Swan meadow car park. Its free on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Also if you want you could walk around town and here the bells go from the church which sound wonderful. You can't take your dog unfortunately and less it's a guide dog .
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
Dogs allowed
