Catch a glimpse of Victorian life at this 'conserved as found' country estate. Brodsworth Hall was built and the pleasure gardens laid out in the 1860s as an up-to-date new home for the Thellusson family and their servants. It survived with remarkably few changes until taken on by English Heritage in 1990. The gardens have been restored and the faded and worn interiors gently conserved, telling the story of the changing fortunes of the people who lived and worked here. Roam the gorgeous grounds, discover the unique Rose garden recently restored to its Victorian splendour and stop for a tea in our pop-up outdoor cafe.
Beautiful house and gardens. The downstairs rooms of the house are grand and show how the house would have appeared in its heyday. We were told that the furniture and items are all from what were originally from the house, and that they didn't want to purchase anything that was not genuinely from the house, which appears to be some feat considering most of the contents were auctioned off in the 1930's. The grounds are maintained to an excellent standard, with stunning views and beautiful plants/fauna. Highly recommended visit.
What a gem of a house! There's so much to see and everything is so well preserved. The staff are dotted about the house and are very knowledgeable about the areas they are in. There's some amazing artwork around the house and I especially enjoyed the kitchen area and the story about the use of the house during the war. There's a small tea room with plenty of seating areas inside and out. We had a mix of hot and cold food and it was very delicious. What makes this house though are the gardens. They are absolutely stunning! We spent a good few hours exploring all the areas and admiring the wonder plants and flowers. It's the best garden I've seen in a long time. The gardener's have done an amazing job. Can't wait to visit again.
A great house aged and matured with great interior and wonderful gardens..... A great house to walk round and some wonderful gardens. This English Heritage site was well worth 2 hours and add some food at the cafe to make it 3 hours. The gardens in the summer were splendid and the house left almost as it was received by the EH is a wonderful place to see. Highly recommend visiting if in the area.
English Heritage site so free to enter for members. Plenty of parking but long slope to hall and gardens. Has lots of garden walks. Hall accessible with rickety lift to upper floor. Cafe a bit difficult to manouever as must order at cashpoint, will bring food etc to table. Plenty to see in hall and gardens well kept.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this beautiful house. The grounds and gardens were stunning. Lovely, helpful staff and a great wee tea room. Definitely worth a visit. The weather was perfect too.
Brodsworth Hall and Gardens is a great place to visit. Plenty of parking. A little shuttle buggy to house is available if required. A great tea room. The house is as it was all those years ago and the history of the house and the families that lived there is detailed at various points. Lovely old kitchen and the servants quarters are listed as some of the largest rooms with amenities that are present in large houses. The gardens are a real treat and have a flavour of Portmeirion about them. Well worth a visit.
