Whether you're a local or a visitor to our shores, this haunting tour will bring you closer to the history of County Down and some of our most celebrated residents! Tales of the Banshee & the ancient inhabitants of Iveagh combine with stories of love, loss & literature to create a unique experience which will linger long in the memory.
Just home from a stunning evening of spooky tales, folklore, history, a bit of music and craic related to us by a wonderful musician/storyteller/historical researcher at the locations at which the events occurred. The rural locations are jaw-droppingly beautiful and haunting, but it's the wealth of knowledge and the manner in which the stories are told that makes this a tour not to be forgotten.
Absolutely wonderful tour full of a great mix of local legends and actual history. Anne is a magnificent story teller with superb energy. Her immense love of the area and it's history comes through when she speaks. Personally to me I am both thankful and excited that my own family is being represented within the local historical landscape.
What a brilliant experience! I thought I knew a lot about the history of Rathfriland as well as the many ghost stories and local folklore. However once Anne got started when we gathered at the beautiful "Luckpenny" sculpture in the Square, I was amazed at how much I didn't know . Anne is a natural storyteller and her historical research is inspirational. The mix of stories from the Hellfire Club to the local connection to the world famous Bronte sisters was so interesting .Of course as this is a beautiful part of Ireland on the edge of the Mourne Mountains , the view from Knock Iveagh to the Mournes was spectacular! Finishing our tour at the atmospheric Dumballyroney Church we were welcomed by Anne playing the harp which enhanced the atmosphere. I have been on many local history tours and this was certainly the best !
This is a fantastic tour which I highly recommend, Anne delivers all the history and ghost stories with such detail and enthusiasm that you are enthralled the whole way through. She really brings Rathfriland and the surrounding area to life and we were lucky to be given a tour on a balmy May evening. The complimentary scailtin was also a wonderfully unexpected treat. Cars are essential though.
