Blackmith's forge with regular demonstrations. Make a phone call via our 1960s Strowger telephone exchange. World War II military life in our Nissen Hut plus experience the cramped conditions inside an Anderson Shelter (domestic air-raid shelter) Tea room on site selling hot & cold drinks, crisps, cake and confectionary. We had an amazing time at this place with our kids! The setup was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. It was evident that they put a lot of effort into making the experience enjoyable for families. We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it to others looking for a fun outing with their kids.
Absolutely marvellous place. Bigger than it looks with lots of interesting things everywhere. This isn't a museum just full of historical things , instead it captures a way of life. You can see how your gran did the washing and how your grandad did his bit for the war effort, how a bus looked for your parents and the bikes they rode and how a telephone exchange works. How did people mow the lawn in 1930 and how the Romans made pots. It's all there how people lived and their stories. If you're lucky you can even see a rather talented blacksmith working the forge. Not forgetting ofcourse a fantastic windmill... You can't really miss it. By the way you must go to the tea room and dry the cheese scones...heaven on a plate. Can you tell I like the place?
Lovely day spent in an awesome place, highly recommend. All ages are welcome.
A lot of interesting sections in the museum that fully explores life in Burwell from the stone age, through Roman and Saxon times to the present day.
Despite it being a small town museum it has something for everyone. It is very hands on and the volunteers who run it are very knowledgeable and friendly. I spent well over an hour here and was well worth the entry fee.
A wonderful find - and need another trip as didn't manage to get around it all. Great insight into a village's life and a trip down memory lane seeing some items! Brilliant for all ages. The cafe offered a great cuppa and delicious treats.
