Accessible by ferry, this cozy island offers medieval ruins, Victorian buildings, beaches & gardens.
This island is simply stunning everywhere you go, beautiful coast scenery & fabulous local business. Taking the ferry here from Wemyss Bay isn't too troublesome, and once you get there there's a handful of bus service that take you around the Island. There's also a tour bus as well (note that this only operates between May & September). And it's well worth it and I'd highly recommend it. If ur ever taking a family out on a day trip somewhere, definitely come here!!
A beautiful island with stunning scenery and super friendly locals. It's only a short, inexpensive, ferry ride from the mainland and is well worth a visit.
If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful break then look no further! The Isle of Bute is a short trip on the ferry from Wemyss Bay. The views are stunning and the people are friendly. Bute boasts a historic castle, museum and a number of quiet bays. The sea quality is currently rated 'good'. Not a bad place for bird watching either, with occasional sitings of seals and dolphins. If fitness is your passion, you can enjoy some quiet roads for cycling( bring your own or hire). Fancy a jog along the quayside? Or you might prefer the local leisure centre (around PS7.00 for non members). There are steam boat and bus tours. You can't island hop but I wouldn't recommend missing it off your list. You don't have to go back to Wemyss Bay: take the ferry from the North of the island. The beaches are nice enough to sit out on if the weather permitts. Don't assume that the weather here is likely to be bleak. I'm writing this on a beautifully sunny day (knowing that much of the UK is suffering from a lot of rain). Eating out. There are plenty of places to eat out at. Gluten free options are limited but Musicker boasts a few fancy treats! I believe one fish and chips shop serves gluten free but I didn't check it out. Helmi's is an award winning cafe (featured on The Hairy Bikers). The chicken there is halal if you require that. If you are into photography, there are plenty of places where you can get some nice landscapes.
Short ferry trip across the waters leads to this beautiful island. The promenade is decorated lovely and island playa host to the Mount Stuart Gardens and Ardencraig Gardens which are also both worth a visit
Bute is one of the most friendly, beautiful places on earth. My grandfather came from there and we've visited 8 times so far. We are always sad to leave. The island only has one traffic light and no roundabouts, and around 7,000 inhabitants who all seem to be more than happy to stop for a chat.
First time on the Island and found it to be a beautiful place to visit. The people are very friendly and there are some great little shops. Visited several bays and they are stunning. I will return to see the place in the summer next year (2023) that's for sure.
