There are also comprehensive displays on fauna, industry and early human occupation of the Island. There's decent parking on the street outside, and a reasonable entry fee of (I think) PS4.50 each.

Small but lovely gardens and greenhouses, full of summer flowers. A massive aviary too, with finches canaries and much more. Sadly no cafe anymore, didn't reopen after covid. Gardens are well worth a visit when in the area.
We loved this charming museum! A really fascinating collection of exhibits, with the best/most enthusiastic welcome at the desk, and our 5 y-o enjoyed an excellent dragon hunt to boot. This is how all museums should be: friendly, accessible, interesting and fun. Thank you.
Very interesting little museum. Look out for the chiming clock in the corner. It has burn marks on the wood on the right-hand side. Before electric lights, candles held close, burnt the wood.
What a surprising place, well worth a visit to learn about the Isle of Butes history. The curator is very knowledgeable and only too willing to explain about the items or answer any queries you may have regarding locl history etc. For instance I did not know that during the world war 2 the royal navy had a miniture submarine X craft base on Bute, which is where they sailed from to attack the battle ship Tirpitz in Norway. There is also a good selection of artifacts discovered around the Island by arciologists.
