This ancient woodland is a haven for nature lovers, featuring a stunning collection of beech trees that are estimated to be over 800 years old. The forest floor is carpeted with bluebells in the spring, and the trees provide a canopy for a variety of wildlife, including birds, bats, and insects. Visitors can explore the woodland via a network of walking trails, including the 10-mile Chiltern Heritage Trail. The site also features a picnic area and scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
Lovely old woodland containing some massive , aged Beech trees . Situated a little way past Berkhamsted Golf Club with heathland to one side & Berkhamsted Common on another side. The woods rise on either side of a rather muddy valley. The name Frithesden translates as a wooded valley & indeed we have a " Frith " not far from my home which is , of course , a wood. You can really feel as though you have stepped back in time in these woods , especially when coming across a group of Roe Deer , the scene evoking the thought that this is how it felt to stand in a wilder , now lost " Olde England ". Others must have felt this , too , as films of Global renown have contained scenes shot in these woods : Sleepy Hollow & Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire. Also the T. V. series Jonathan Creek. Many birds to be seen & we once saw 2 magnificent Brown Hares.
This woodland is a lovely and quiet place, ideal for a peaceful walk. It's a great spot to relax and enjoy nature, especially with the beautiful beech trees. There's plenty of wildlife to see, from birds in the branches to small animals on the ground. Whether you're strolling around or just sitting and taking in the view, this woodland is a wonderful place to visit.
