This Iron Age hillfort is situated in Somerset, England, and dates back to the 4th or 5th century BC. The fort is surrounded by a single rampart and ditch, with an entrance on the eastern side. The site is roughly oval in shape, measuring approximately 240 by 180 meters. Although the fort has been partially destroyed by quarrying and ploughing, its earthworks remain visible, with the rampart rising up to 2 meters above the surrounding terrain. Archaeological excavations have uncovered evidence of occupation, including Iron Age pottery and coins, as well as Roman and medieval artifacts. Today, the site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and is open to the public for visits and exploration.
Sheep. Good climb up but couldn't see that much from the top which was a shame.
Great place to go for a walk. Make sure you wear decent walking shoes/boots, as some steep slopes and tricky areas. Great place to take dogs but be aware that there can be cattle roaming free
First visit even though the I've lived in the area for 35 years but won't be the last. What a gem! So many footpaths, so much wildlife, a great place to walk the dog, and the car park is free!! .
Interesting Iron Age enclosure, and special as it was re-inhabited post-Roman times. Ditches visible. Good views to the Mendips. Nice place to walk dog.
A nice spot to go for a walk. It is a bit steep in places getting to the top but once there the views are worth the effort. I slipped over on a very steep path coming back down through the woods. There is a free car park and well laid out paths although signing is a little bit lacking. We found our way round all right with the help of Google maps and had an enjoyable walk. This is a bit of a hidden gem as I don't think it is particularly well known.
Wonderful bat life, lesser and greater horseshoe bats, pippistrels, serotines. Lovely area for wildlife
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
