The Callanish 8 - Stone Circle is a Bronze Age monument located on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The circle consists of 8 monoliths, ranging in height from 1.5 to 3.5 meters, arranged in a circular pattern. The stones are rough and unworked, with some displaying signs of weathering and lichen growth. The circle is surrounded by a low earth bank, and the area is dotted with other smaller stones and boulders. The site is believed to have been constructed around 2900 BC, making it one of the oldest and most important archaeological sites in the UK.
Easy to get to, up a few steps from the road, parking nearby. Lovely place next to the water with good views up Loch Roag.
The smallest of the Callanish stones, but in a lovely location. Sitting right at the new bridge with some tables and chairs. There are also some parking spaces making it an ideal spot to stop on your travels.
Callinish 8, is just next to the Great Bernera Bridge, and visible from the road, with a very brief walk to see the stones. A must if you are an ancient stone botherer, and wish to visit all of the Callinish stones!
Loved our visit to the Callanish Stone circles. The main circle is incredible, and very thought-provoking. No time-slips, sadly, but I had my iwn handsome highlander with me anyway
Great views.
Not many stones left but wonderful view if you keep walking past it and continue up the hill.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
