Edinburgh's oldest visitor attraction, located at the top of the Royal Mile. Five floors of fascinating, hands-on, interactive exhibits. Where 21st Century tech meets classic illusions and historic science. It's a great day out for all ages. Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is the only place where you can discover the whole of Edinburgh without leaving the room. During a visit anything is possible in this world of visual trickery, from getting lost in the Mirror Maze, to shrinking yourself like Alice in Wonderland. And don't forget to visit the Rooftop Terrace, for the best views of Edinburgh, a photo opportunity not to be missed. Open late all year. A five-star rated visitor attraction and in the top five things to do on TripAdvisor.
It's good - but I've been to better... The good points - The staff are amazingly friendly, couldnt be better. Polite, happy and helpful. Exhibit wise, the tunnel and mirror maze are fun... As are some of the bigger camera based stuff like the flash shadow outline... There really is fun for all ages too with different types of exhibit. Could be better - a large portion of the exhibits...just don't hit it for me. I've been to better, like Upside Down Amsterdam, where we paid the same for a much better and bigger experience. A lot of the exhibits aren't actually illusions and kinda get to feel a bit repetitive. That being said - if you're in Edinburgh and fancy it, go for it!
One of the rare places where your kid and you both would be amazed. Lot to do but still very well organized. Ensure you teach your children to wait and go in line so they cover all the exhibits. Our little one was ready to wait as he didn't want to miss out any parts which he couldn't try and all his patience were paid of well when he tried doing stuff. He was super super curious about so many stuff which made the whole experience more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place as you would miss out on learning a lot about Edinburgh and Scotland history if you are new to the place.
It sounds joyful for kids yet it is very much appropriate for adults to experience. It is filled with excitement, amazement, fun, and laughs. Definitely worth a try. Tickets can be booked online or direct purchase upon visit, on your preference.
Very unique and fun experience, you get to take a lot of funny and creative pictures, interactive place with some activities as well. At the end of the tour there's a light show as well and you go to the roof which shows amazing view of the city as well. It has a maze including many other things.
Amazing exhibits, beautifully maintained and well thought out. Staff were wonderful, friendly and upbeat. Would say it only took us 1-1.5 hours to get all the way round, but it was quiet so didn't have to queue to play with the illusions. Would definitely go again!
Loved it, so fun and plenty to see unlike other similar places. It's nor particularly cheap but it is worth it in my opinion if you enjoy illusion houses. The view of Edinburgh from the roof is immaculate. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lovely woman doing the show on the roof was very funny, informative, and friendly. Highly recommend!
