Lovely place, so good we went back the next day. We bought a ticket on day one which was stamped so we could return for free within a week. I'd recommend wearing sturdy trainers or walking boots as the paths are steep and uneven, I imagine they can be muddy in wet weather. There were lots of benches to sit and rest along the routes around the falls and lakes so you can take the walk at your own pace. I liked that there were things to keep youngsters interested on the walks like looking for the fairies and dinosaurs. Play areas looked fun too. The views were awesome especially from the top. Dog friendly, they have to be on a lead. Mine loved it and it was great for him as there was lots of shade as it was the hottest day of the year so far! Good idea to take some water for you and your dog on hot days too. The cafe was dog friendly inside and out, they even serve a sausage for the dog and have doggy ice cream. So not only did we have a lovely meal so did our dog. We also had a gentle stroll around the lakes, labyrinth, poets corner and standing stones, again there was some shade for us and the dog. Will definitely come back again.
Lovely place to visit, nice route walking to the top of the falls through the tree, quite a lot of steps but fabulous view from the top. By contrast the walk past the labyrinth and standing stones is through the meadows but equally nice. Cafe, ice-cream and small gift shop.
I absolutely loved this place, the views are spectacular and the waterfalls did not disappoint. This is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as the climb to the top is pretty steep. Dogs are welcome and the cafe does a great lunch (gluten free options available too). Would definitely come back.
This little hidden jewel is a gorgeous place to visit. The serenity of the place is really very nice, to listen to the waterfall and the birds. It is a place where you can sit and relax. The other features of the grounds are superb, The Lanbrynth is a great feature. It tells a story, but I will let you find that out. They have a nice courtyard where you can sit and drink I or eat the delights from the shop. To get to the top of the waterfall, there are laid out paths, but if you are unable to walk up inclines it could be a little difficult. Once at the top of the waterfall, you can look out over the rolling countryside and listen to the water cascading down over the rocks. There is a viewing platform at the top where you can sit and take it all in. There is plenty of parking, and the owners are really nice people who make you feel welcome. This is definitely one for the list of places to visit. You won't be disappointed. And on a plus, you can revisit on your ticket for a week.
What can I say, I certainly did not expect to see what we saw beforehand. As other reviewers have mentioned already, it's a bit of a climb to get to the top, but once there you are rewarded with a fantastic view of the surrounding area. You'll have to see for yourself, really :). The walk towards the falls and surrounding area looks fantastic. It's clean, there are plenty of benches on the way to the top to rest if you need to. They've spiced it up a bit with 'hidden' fairies and plant based dinosaurs. This is really fun for kids - but us adults loved it as well. Along the trail are signs with information about what you're looking at, quite interesting. The Canonteign Falls has a decent parking area and a cafe which serves great food. Really recommended to order something there, you've earned it after you're done with the tour :). The toilets outside the cafe were spotless and smelled lovely - they keep them very clean! There's an entry fee, as the falls are on privately owned property. I have no problem with that, but I think the entry fee is quite hefty. We were with two adults, two kids and had to pay PS38. They keep the place spotless and need to maintain the property of course, but most visitors will (most likely) visit the cafe and order a drink and probably have at least something to eat. Taking that into account I figure the entry fee could be lowered. Despite that I'm very pleased with what you can find here. I would recommend it to everyone.
PS9-75 entry includes car park which is pretty good value. A choice of 2 walks, one round the lake and lower end and the other through the wood to the highest waterfall in England. Quite a steep walk but well worth it when you reach the top and take in the views. Toilets absolutely immaculate, and the usual gift shop. Cafe busy, maybe need to have a second server for drinks only as it was a bit chaotic. Good for all the family and definitely not it.
