The southern gateway to the Broads National Park, Carlton Marshes nature reserve is a huge expanse of water, woodland and marshes, home to a wide variety of fantastic wildlife. Carlton Marshes is Suffolk Wildlife Trust's flagship visitor centre and nature reserve with an adventurous playscape for children, a visitor centre with cafe and shop, accessible and all-weather trails, which makes it the perfect family day out. Please note: Please call the cafe team on 01502 359 480 if you are visiting with a large group to reserve a table and pre-order hot food to avoid disappointment.
Great place to explore and to see birds and wild life spottedmarsh harriers and a magical glimpse of an otter. Lots of hides too. Lovely cafe at the visitors centre
Really impressive wild space, owned and managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Large car park, free to use (donations welcomed, to support the Wildlife Trust's work). Visitor Centre, where you can pick up a free map with walk routes of varying distances and to suit all abilities. Or, get advice from the helpful and well-informed staff and volunteers. Cafe, with toilets. Large outdoor children's play area. Lots of different wildlife habitats to explore, with hides, and many and varied species to look out for. Spend an enjoyable hour or two here, or all day.
Parking is free. There's a cafe. There are also toilets. Some of the paths are concrete and suitable for buggies, some are not, and are really quite muddy. Suitable footwear is recommended. You can do some really long walks here. Dogs are welcome but on leads at all times. Worth a visit !
Back again for a repeat visit. Can't fault this place. Lots of well posted walks which are on the level and easy to negotiate. We'll managed reserve with lots of interest. Friendly helpful staff. Parking only PS3 for the day. Clean toilets are a bonus too. Picnic areas with bench tables. Good coffee and snack options on offer. Recommended.
This is a free place to go with the family, all ages. Pets also. It has a lovely coffee shop. Would very much recommend.
This is a lovely bit of countryside that you can really appreciate being in. It is driven by protecting the marshland which is very important as it is a habitat for a lot of wildlife. There are pathways throughout the area, with some more accessible than others if you are on wheels due to disability, but there is plenty to explore either way. The scenery is stunning, and you can never tell what wildlife you will see which makes this a good place to repeat visit. There is also an accessible hide where you can sit and watch wildlife (my Swan pic was taken from this.) The people there are really friendly and they give you a map of the walks, and in my case showed my the best ones for my mobility scooter. There is also a cafe and gift shop, as well as toilets on site at the entrance. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think a bit more could be done to increase accessibility, but as far as the feel of the area goes I would give it 5 stars.
