This 12th-century priory church is a stunning example of medieval architecture, featuring a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The exterior's rugged stone façade gives way to a serene interior, with a striking vaulted ceiling, elegant arches, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The church's historic significance is palpable, with ancient stone carvings, intricate monuments, and a tranquil atmosphere that invites contemplation.
Huge stunningly beautiful Church in the centre of Cartmel village. Well worth having a walk around the grounds - we found some gravestones dating back to the 1700's.
An ancient and enchanting place, dating back not far off a thousand years in parts. We happened to visit when the choir were practising on a Sunday afternoon which added even more to the atmosphere. It's very peaceful and there is a small shop which helps support the upkeep of the church.
Wow! What a lovely place. I was 100% impressed with the Priory. I think we struck lucky with a beautiful day and there was also a Medieval Fair taking place at the Priory and in the village that day.
Such a beautiful old church priory. Very knowledgeable volunteer staff. The town is also worth a visit, friendly people and many sights to see.
