Hilltop ruins of a 13th century castle built on the site of an earlier Iron Age hillfort.
It is a stunning beauty. The views you get on the way and on the top are amazing. The top is reasonably flat with plenty of space to walk around and view all around. There are a few remaining walls of the castle that give it an ancient feel. Please do not follow the Google maps, park in the town, and then walk to the top. It's a medium hike. One can reach the top in under 30 minutes.
I visited on a weekday morning to enjoy the sun and fresh air. I wasn't sure if there was a parking lot, so I asked a kind farmer and found out there was a small space. I drove up a narrow road for a few minutes and parked on a side road. The climb was easy!! Grown ups would reach the summit in about 30 minutes. I wore casual shoes, but it was a bit slippery, so I think hiking boots would be more suitable. At the summit, definitely, visitors would be impressed by the stunning view. If you are coming by car, it would be better to park at the car park in Llangollen on the weekends. It was a place worth visiting!!
Well worth the walk up the steep hill! The scenery from the top is amazing. Lovely views over Llangollen and you can even see as far as Pontcysyllty Aquaduct on a clear day. Plenty of safe places to stop mid way if you need to catch your breath and there's even a bench when you reach over half way! Lovely walk on a nice day, suitable for dogs too!
Beautiful view of whole town and the limestone hills surrounding it. The climb was very easy and can be done by anyone with average health. You would need to cross field of sheep so don't forget to put your dog on leash. Would recommend to pack some food with you, would highly recommend to have a seat beside the castle and enjoy the snack with beautiful views surrounding it.
Walked up early in the morning hoping for a sunrise. I was not disappointed. The climb up is OK. I should imagine for most people. The views from the top are incredible. As are the ruins themselves. I can imagine it gets quite busy so for the photographer the early morning or late evening is the best. Definitely worth a visit.
The climb up the hill would be invigorating, and reaching the ruins would feel like stepping back in time. From the top, the panoramic views would stretch out before me, painting a stunning picture of the Welsh countryside. The ancient stones would whisper tales of battles and triumphs, adding to the mystique of the place. Overall, it sounds like an unforgettable experience for anyone fortunate enough to visit.
