Perched in a commanding hilltop position above the Tywi Valley, Dinefwr Castle occupies a similarly significant position in Welsh history. In the 12th century, the fortress was in the possession of The Lord Rhys, ruler of the ancient south Wales kingdom of Deheubarth. His reign saw a rare period of peace and stability that led to a flowering of Welsh culture, music and poetry.
Great castle well maintained and absolutely stunning views of surrounding area. The car park is only PS5 for all day, so can make the most of all the walks and the main house. Dog friendly everywhere apart from the deer park section so plenty to do with four legged friends as well. Good options in the cafe for refreshments as well
Not much of a castle left, quite long walk up to it. Came after closing hrs but it's still OK to visit the castle. Amazing views from the top, dog friendly
A really nice site, although small it still gives you a few options to do whilst there! We walked the steep way(Was not told of another way, was quite challenging) up to the castle ruins, great views of all around and far we went to the house and were so happy to see the lawns games( outside Newton house) MEGA chess, MEGA Jenga and croquet! Didn't visit the cafe, just grabbed a drink from the hut(PS2.30 for a 330ml can) The gentleman on the gatehouse was a lovely soul and even gave us a map as it was our first time
Lovely castle with a couple of routes to get up to it. One way has a fairly steep hill, but there's another way up that isn't as steep. Wonderful woods with plenty of wildlife on the way up. Gorgeous views all around.
Lovely walk through history. About a 20 minute walk from Newton house, up a hill and through old woodland. If u like history, you will enjoy coming here
I didn't realise this was also a National Trust place until I showed up in the pouring rain! Came for Castell Dinefwr and had a look at the estate and house as well. Gorgeous and a good escape on such a rainy day. Managed my NT with free parking with the membership. The Castell and the walk there were also super worth it! Sadly didn't see any deer because they were (very sensibly) hiding from the rain.
