Castle Rising is a ruined medieval fortification in the village of Castle Rising, Norfolk, England. It was built soon after 1138 by William d'Aubigny II. It is one of the largest, best preserved and most lavishly decorated keeps in England, surrounded by 20 acres of mighty earthworks.
Really lovely 2 young staff members in the shop. Did worry about them lone working though and people taking advantage of not paying entry. The castle is really lovely, and fantastic to go see all the levels! Me and my partner had a lovely time.
Castle Rising is a fantastic historical castle with a superb keep building and a superb Motte & Bailey layout. No fancy gimmicks here and just straightforward history for those who love visiting with the echoes from the past. The do have the occasional historical event on Bank Holidays so it's worth checking the website to see if there's something on that you want to see (or avoid) Add to that there's a decent car park plus a really nice tea shop and a pub a very short walk away makes it a great place to visit
Whilst the castle has been preserved well and is dog friendly I don't think it's worth PS6 entrance fee. To be honest nobody checked entry tickets so you could probably just walk in for a quick look, you'll be back out within 5 minutes due to the size of the site. Would have been nice to see a flag flying for a bit of authenticity. The castle is in a lovely little village which is quintessentially English and that's what made the visit worthwhile. The castle was a bit boring to be honest.
Beautiful castle! We went on a Friday morning during term time, but even then there were a surprising amount of people. Lots of dogs as well, its a very dog friendly place. Entry was something like PS6 for an adult which is an absolute bargain, we bought them on the day and tgere was no queue or wait to get in. Everything is well maintained and there are information points dotted around. The stairs are small and tricky as you would expect, but our 3 year old managed them with a little help Theres plenty of parking at the site, parkings free and theres a toilet block at the end of the car park. Theres a gift shop at the ticket office too. No cafe, but we took a picnic. We spent about 2hrs here including lunch, as we wanted one last adventure to end our holiday before driving home, and this was the perfect place!
Great castle which is well worth a visit. Good parking. Make sure you visit the lovely church and amazing cafe in the village to make your journey worthwhile. Just a hundred yards or so from the castle car park.
Great place for a short stop. Well-preserved for the age, there are multiple floors with interesting rooms to see. Bathrooms are good. Easy car park. It's not good for pushchairs inside.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Good for kids
