A natural limestone cave, Causey Arch is a hidden gem nestled in the rolling hills of County Durham, United Kingdom. This ancient cave system boasts an impressive array of stalactites and stalagmites, their delicate formations a testament to the region's geological history. As visitors make their way through the cave's winding passages, the soft glow of luminescent lights illuminates the intricate patterns and colors of the limestone, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The air inside is cool and damp, filled with the scent of damp earth and the sound of dripping water echoing off the walls.
Absolutely beautiful little part of the world. Nice walks to get lost along and some really nice views of the river and arch. There's also people who say "good morning" to you when you walk past which is super white but ultimately not that bad. Would recommend.
Lovely place for a walk. We parked in free carpark at causey arch and walked the stepped route upto the bridge. Then onto the viewpoint and continued on to East Tanfield Railway Station before heading back and crossing the bridge. Then venturing down into the gorge and under the bridge. The paths were muddy and slippy in places. Some steep steps bit overall well layed out routes easy to follow. Lots of lovely views. Plenty benches and picnic areas.
Had a great day at Causey Arch with kids, with the warm weather and rain it looked beautiful
Good size car park including disabled parking spots too, cafe nearby, picnic tables available too. Walk was lovely (very muddy at this time of the year) we've enjoyed walking by the river it was nice day out!
