Cawdor Castle is the ancestral home of the Campbells of Cawdor and has been since the 14th Century. Cawdor Castle a five star visitor attraction near Nairn. The castle contains three retail shops, the Courtyard Cafe, a Coffee House, 9-hole golf course and putting green suitable for all abilities, two walled gardens from the 16th & 17th centuries, the more recent Wild Garden and the Cawdor Big Wood one of the finest areas of ancient oak woodland in the UK with kilometres of trails.
A wonderful family castle picked out of many we could of visited because of the gardens. Just fabulous, great herbaceous borders with unusual plants and designed with an artist's eye, just stunning. The castle itself offers many photo opportunities and has a really eclectic art collection. Guided tour via individual gadgets most interesting with language options.Cafe is top rate and very well priced. Walk to the river or chill in the grounds. Would go again.
Beautiful castle with great stories. Not very crowded and lots of parking. Beautiful gardens and charming exterior. Staff were wonderful and written notes from the late sixth Earl of Cawdor were interesting and entertaining. Really enjoyed.
The castle is well maintained. A self guided audio tour is provided. Very interesting. The gardens are wonderful! Mixture of formal and "wild". Pollinators abound. If you're a gardener or photographer it's an excellent experience.
The castle on its own is magnificent. But the gardens....they are the best gardens I've ever been in! Total Secret Garden vibes! Huge plants, and trees! Beautiful, vibrant flowers! I hope to return one day!
The gardens are beautiful, even though the maze isn't open to visitors. The interior is a disappointment: it looks like a randomly furnished 1960s mountain chalet. There's nothing that evokes a Scottish style. Skip it and just visit the gardens.
One of my favorite stops on a whole 2-week vacation. The audio tour is excellent and covers many interesting areas of the castle. The gardens are amazing, and there are some inviting forest hiking trails just across a bridge around the right side of the castle (to the left as you exit). The cafe was excellent as well. My gen-Z kids said "rate 10".
