Only found out about this pleasant Nature Reserve the day before our visit. It is a bit fiddly to find, but once you do, what a treat you are in for. Once the site of a Maternity Hospital, from 1947-1973, many folks' from around and about were born there. Hospital is long gone and in it's place nature has taken over. Dog friendly too, (remember to pick the poop up and TAKE IT HOME TO BIN, not chuck it in a bush/tree)! Highly recommend for a very pleasant few hours' and free of charge! What's not to love!
A beautifully laid out nature reserve with a good range of habitats. There's everything from woodland to fields, old kitchen gardens to streams. Well worth a visit.
We really enjoyed our walk around Cefn Ila. It has a nice history of the maternity hospital, the orchard that would have been still full of fruit, the paths are well maintained and quite a few benches. Didn't see anyone else on our walk - perfect escape! Thank you to those that keep it this way.
What an amazing walk, had the pleasure of taking some wedding photos here.
Stunningly beautiful! Peaceful. Therapeutic. Interesting history. Information in the walled garden. Wonderful collection of trees and shrubs.
Quiet carpark, alot of dog mess around unfortunately :( quite a few routes to walk, good for a general/gentle walk as nothing to major. Well signposted trails and a old ruined garden near the top Just outside of Usk, which is also good, has villagecoffee shops ect.
