Churnet Valley Railway is a delightful heritage railway located in the picturesque Staffordshire Moorlands offering something for all the family. Featuring heritage steam and diesel locomotives, the 10-mile line is open to visitors on selected dates throughout the year. Sit back and relax in our 1950/60s carriages as you journey through beautiful countryside that takes in rolling hills, the River Churnet and the Caldon Canal. Our friendly staff will be on board the trains and at our faithfully restored stations to serve refreshments and offer an insight into the railway and the local area. Passengers can enjoy a wide selection of on board experiences throughout the year. Our Moorlander Dining Train offers a range of meals and delights.
Exceptionally good experience. Beautifully restored loco and carriages with a gentle steam train ride through the Staffordshire countryside. Spectacular views of unspoilt scenery during the trip. We opted for the breakfast train. A great choice of breakfast options available, all freshly prepared on board with silver service at your table. We chose the full English and eggs Benedict options. Both were hot and well presented and very tasty. The staff on board and at the station were friendly and informative. Highly recommend this to anyone wanting an enjoyable experience.
A really nostalgic train ride which lasts just over two hours. Several times of the week it has a dining car as well. The staff were all friendly and helpful as well. Lovely cafe at Froghall.
Visited here today whilst on holiday near buxton! This has been the highlight of our holiday! From the aesthetics of the station front and inside the cafe and toilets to the amazing customer service, the train journey was the cherry on top! Such a great price for us (a family of 5) for 3hrs of pure enjoyment! Can't praise the staff and volunteers enough for making this such an unforgettable experience!! Highly recommend!
Most enjoyable trip on a well run Steam railway. Staff were very friendly and made whole experience. My Dig Bob was given a complimentary sausage which he loved! Train ride is an hour each way through lovely countryside and through a 531 yard tunnel. Cafe is good again staffed by very friendly people. Thankyou for a lovely day. Even allowed onto footplate of engine and good talk with very interesting and knowledgeable drivers.
I had tickets for the Moorlander lunch train for my birthday, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. All of the staff absolutely top notch, the food was amazing, the service was amazing. The countryside is beautiful, 3 course meal and 2 hours on the train, what more could you ask for. It was an amazing afternoon and I will most definitely be dining on the train again! I look forward to the next time!
Arrived early for the Sunday Lunch but you have to wait for them to set up a bit of hanging around. Nice time to take photos. The company had changed the carriages around, so there was a bit of a mixup with the drinks orders, but the staff soon had it sorted! Sat on a table with a lovely couple from Yorkshire and had a nice 3 course meal. My one complaint would be they should supply sachets of mustard and horseradish on the table. Never even offered condiments! The staff were very attentive. Very relaxing afternoon and would recommend if condiments were provided. All in all, a good birthday treat.
