A museum dedicated to eight centuries of Cameron Clan, Highland and Jacobite History, with artefacts from Bonnie Prince Charlie and some famous Cameron chiefs. We are on the site of the Commando Basic Training Centre from WWII, and visitors are welcome to walk through the areas in which they trained. Our highlights include Bonnie Prince Charlie's waistcoat, Euan Dubh's 17th century boots, Princess Diana's bridesmaid's dress, and a dinner set from the Titanic movie. There are many beautiful walks through Achnacarry Estate, including the Commando Trail, Cia-aig Falls and St. Ciaran's Church. We also have ice cream and a gift shop.
Very good museum all about clan Cameron at a very reasonable price at a beautiful tranquil location. The gift shop also has so many unique Cameron memorabilia you wouldn't find anywhere else to buy.
We attended the first day of the international Clan gathering, so our experience may not be the norm. Warm welcomes from everyone including Lochiel himself. The museum has a fantastic gift shop with a huge range, not just your usual stuff. The information boards and displays are easy to follow and there are plans to upgrade. There are not currently any interactive displays but for a small museum it is lovely. The grounds are extensive. The access road requires drivers to know about driving on single track roads.
Has a lovely walk nearby, just go into the museum and ask for a map. Throughout the walk, they have put info boards about the commando training which took place in WW2 in the house, estate and surrounding area. Well worth a try out, lovely views of the lochs.
The museum was small but had a lot of information. I have Cameron heritage so it was particularly interesting to me. Staff was young and not overly helpful when we asked questions about where we could walk on the grounds, etc.
Nice little museum off the main roads. Not only about the clan Cameron, but also about the commando's who were trained here in WWII.
Great museum to visit, informative and interesting with lots to see and read in a small space. Super friendly staff (and an adorable puppy which needs a mention!). Recommend a visit.
