Ruins of a 13th-century castle with interpretive panels & 360-degree views of the surrounding area.
Lovely, quiet, quirky RUIn rather than "Castle". Free car park (with toilets) a short walk away with and a great little cafe on hand. Recommended!
The castle ruins are pretty, but there's no way to can touch them as they're quite rightly roped off. Its a short but steep climb to the ruins. It's also muddy. It is worth a visit though
I like castles there's always a huge amount of history attached to every one you go to. This one was built by the Normans in the late 11th century to guard the Clun Valley. It has a deep moat around which was built to keep armies away. This also works well to keep tourists away, as I wouldn't like to try and climb up the steep banks. There's not much left of the castle now but the information board is interesting. The parking is downhill and across the bridge over the River Clun. So a bit of a steep walk to it, but it's well worth it.
Small carpark with toilets near to the castle. It's a 5-10 minute walk to reach the castle ruins. Muddy, grassy tracks to reach the ruins, which are on the top of a small mound. Great to look at, free to enter, and plenty of benches about to sit on.
I love Clun, I could happily live there. It's bliss. Gorgeous countryside. Views and walks. Gardens open once a year to public where you can see into others gardens whom choose to open. Little shops and nice little pub and tea shop.
Lovely area. Great little walk up to the castle. Free access. Wear something a little sturdier than sandals. Great views. Lots of benches to sit and admire the scenery. Has some picnic benches at the car park along with toilets.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
