Coldharbour Mill is currently open for pre-booked groups and educational visits, you can also visit on on our event days through the year. Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797. Originally owned by world-renowned textile producers Fox Brothers, the Mill took fleece from all over the world and transformed it into yarn, cloth and textiles. Today the rich heritage lives on as one of the finest working wool museums where visitors are not just able to relive the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution but also see crafts men and women making traditional textiles & yarn "probably one of the best-preserved textile mill complexes in the country." - Historic England
What a brilliant museum! There is an outstanding representation of industrial heritage processes in a working mill environment, with a fascinating array of equipment on show - and in use. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. This is absolutely worth visiting and taking time to absorb the history and present day fabric creation. A gem of an attraction on the edge of the Blackdown Hills.
A fascinating look back to our industrial heritage. Providing a small, but much quieter, insight into how these mills ran and sounded. Set in a beautiful setting with plenty of free car parking. Cash and cards accepted. Good wheelchair access to main areas, other areas awaiting further development. Staff were dressed in period attire, very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Attended on a day when the boilers were lit and the steam engines functioning, well worth checking prior to visit. Small cafe and shop. Items made at the mill are sold in the shop Appears to have further exhibits, activities and walks under construction.
I only dropped in for a coffee with my mother who is a wheelchair user. The car park is with ample parking and it's free! Very pretty outside setting, like something out of a fairytale book. Well kept gardens with an array of colourful flowers and trees. Plenty of seating and even a cut out in the bench for the wheelchair to slot into. Lovely relaxing place to sit and take in the sights of all the lovely plants and swallows that dart across the sky from different parts of the building. Staff are friendly and helpful. A chap even opened up the double doors so I could wheel my Mum into the cafe and I didn't even have to ask, he just did it. Ya an all round pleasent place to visit even if you don't go into the Mill.
Such an interesting place and the volunteers around the place are so informative. You can tell they love answering questions which is great. A special thanks to the young lady in the mill who explained all about the machines, she was great.
We visited on a Thursday and it was not an operating date. We have entered for free. Looks like only the operating days are charged. However we explored over than two hours nice old technology, boilers, steam engines and much more. It is a really beautiful place that takes you back in time and disconnects you from any daily things. It has a nice outdoor garden, a lot to visit and free parking for however long you need. The local shop there is not so nice as you don't have too many options for souvenirs but overall it worth visiting.
