The Combined Military Services Museum Houses a collection of Military Artefacts dating from 1800 BCE to the modern era, including weapons, uniforms, technology and reference library.
This was a superb find for me as looking for something to do. What an incredible museum with the biggest display of guns in the country. Over three floors this museum has displays of all original items from different theatres of war and includes , special forces, spies and home front. Spears, swords, uniforms and weapons. You will need a good couple of hours to see everything, very informative displays. Definitely worth a visit as the best that I have seen and a hidden secret. There is free parking, admission is PS9.50 for adults. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10.30am to 5pm. When we arrived we were greeted by a very nice and knowledgeable lady, Julie Ann Miller.
What an absolutely fantastic hidden gem! One man's stunning, eclectic collection. Run by really enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, who are present to share interesting facts and point out rare and unusual items and give more information when requested and answer our many questions! (I think the gentleman's name was Dave... thank you!) Free parking on site. Tickets very reasonably priced. Usually closed Monday and Tuesday, but open every day for school holidays. A list of items does not do the collection justice so I won't try, however the spy section was really cool and the Victoria Cross display. Husband is ex military and was really impressed with the scope and detail. The collection spans 3 floors and is well laid out in sections. If you get overwhelmed with everything there is to see, seek out the yellow labelled items (rarest items or something interesting/different) No cafe, just a coffee machine. Plenty of chairs to rest. Photos allowed. 100% worth a visit.
This museum is absolutely amazing. History at its finest. The collection this museum has is extensive, ranging from 1500's , up to modern times, covering all periods and wars in detail. Housing a rare Victoria Cross which was a true delight to see. Fully disability friendly with ramps, clear pathways, disabled toilet and a lift. A great way for children and adults alike to learn about military history with original artifacts.
Amazing weapons from the past. Army uniform 1800's-1945. You're allowed to hold some guns but you have to ask. I spent two hours there. Saff are volunteers who are very informed about the museum. They also have a spy section that got James bond. My favourite museum so far! Well definitely come back.
Had a wonderful time at this museum~if you are into war/military history you don't want to miss this place. We flew all the way from Korea to explore war museums in UK and by far this museum is the best. Compact but the sections were diverse, well categorized and genuin. All the staff members were all so friendly and knowledgeable so the stories told and questions answered were so interesting:)!! We even took pictures with the kind gentleman to remember today but then forgot to ask for the name T_T Thank you for the precious memory We also had a nice walk along the shore after coming out from the museum. Everything was so awesome! Thank you! Love from the Kim's family
Fantastic place. Small and out of the way but totally worth a visit. Huge and comprehensive collection of arms, uniforms. Equipment, uniforms and a fantastic SOE & 'spy' collection.
