Follow in the footsteps of Victorian slate miners with the best Mine Guides. You'll experience the broad tunnels and cavernous chambers where the world's finest slate was excavated by both hand and explosive, before being shipped around the world. From the moment you step through a hidden door in the mountainside, you'll be immersed into a way of life and work which changed little throughout the mine's history. Having barely been touched since the mine was abandoned in the 1970s, the countless awards and outstanding reviews explain how unmissable this experience is. There's a great cafe and Welsh Deli and other experiences sharing the same site, namely King Arthur's Labyrinth, Welsh Legends Maze and the Corris Craft Centre.
We did the path finder tour today. Our leader, Tim, did a brilliant job! He answered everyone's questions well and his genuine interest in the mine was obvious from his enthusiasm throughout the tour. We will definitely be returning to do the longer tour and congratulations to Tim for completing your first tour!
We pre booked a visit to Corris Mines. The tour was not fully booked out but we were 12 people plus guide. Before going to the mines you will get wellies (if you didn't bring suitable shoes or wellies your own). I'd suggest to dress like going on a hike, clothes might get wet or dirty; it's cold in the mine, if you get cold easily bring a beanie and gloves. After a short security instruction the guide will bring you deeper into the mines. Apropos guide, in my eyes he really is the best part: Mark "Mouly" is a funny guy with a very loose tongue. He is able to tell facts as well as he is an entertainer. Mark has no fixed route, he will show you places depending on the questions you ask. Mouly thank you!
This was recommended to us by a few local people from where we were staying and what a great experience it was. Venturing through a opening in the mountain side you immediately feel the difference in temperature. Then through the tunnels to several caverns some quite vast. The guide Tim was amazing and gave us a real insight into what went on at the mine, why it shut and what it was like working in there in the Victorian era, when the mine was at its prime. All in all a great experience for all ages. The added bonus was this was all nestled within the craft centre so there is plenty to see and do to make a day of it. Would definitely recommend this experience.
Did a visit with Mark and had an absolute blast ! Lots of fun facts about the mine which is an incredible preserved living museum. Awesome bit of climbing too around the different levels and always felt safe and secure. Would 100% recommend ! Will be looking into taking a longer tour soon.
Great adventure underground and very interesting to understand more about the history of slate mining and the challenges for the miners to make a living under very difficult and dangerous conditions. Tim was a great guide and kept us all engaged as we meandered through the tunnels and vast cavers of excavated slate, large array of shops for gifts and curios also on site, easy to find and parking was plentiful and close to the facilities, well worth a visit but make sure you wrap up warm and take your wellies although hard hats, torch and wellies and provided if needed
Amazing experience! Moley, our guide, was the best. Super fun, interactive and educational. Like previous reviews say, the tour can be guided in the interest of the group. Our group was all on the same page and we went deeper into the mine and got to do some climbing as well. 100% would recommend. Really worth the price and you can get a lot from the experience no matter your age.
