Crail Museum & Heritage Centre is open seasonally. Opening dates in 2024 are: Thursdays to Sundays from 6th June to 20th October, plus Bank Holiday Monday 26th August. Opening times are: Sundays 1:30pm-4pm, other days 11am-4pm. The Museum provides an insight into the past life of the ancient Royal Burgh of Crail, its Kirk, seafaring tradition, Crail Golfing Society (founded in 1786 - the 7th oldest in the world) and Crail airfield history from the First World War until its closure in 1960. Crail has been a prosperous and important trading and fishing port since the 12th century. Admission to the Museum and all of our collections & exhibitions is FREE.
Free to enter lovely wee museum highlighting Crails Heritage from its beginnings to its links to the fishing industry, lifeboats, golf (find out the difference between a niblick and a mashie) and of course the famous airfield. On entering, we were greeted by a lovely lady who offered to explain where everything was and what to see. There is a small souvenir shop for those mementoes to take home.
Crail Museum is a joy to visit. So much history within the walls of the Museum. The museum is ran by volunteers who just simply have a passion for all things Crail. The volunteers are full of such interesting stories of this lovely village and the villagers. If you are looking for your connection by family to Crail, the museum is the place to start your search. If you are looking for more information on the base, the museum can help you and if you just want to get to know Crail, the museum should be your first stop. The gift shop has a new look which is inviting. Nice for the villagers or visitors to but a special item for self or as a gift for someone special.
Absolutely fascinating museum, especially the room featuring the history of the Joint Services School for Linguists, where many father was posted in the late 1950s. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Very helpful and friendly volunteers helped us find the former Fisher and Donaldson bakery. Will be back on our next visit. Thank you.
