Crawley Museum is a local history museum, which tells the history of the town through objects and their stories. It has an active programme of events and temporary exhibitions which reflect various aspects of the town and the local area. It also has a learning offer for all ages. Our collections include objects from Crawley prehistory, its medieval settlement, the Victorian town and the 20th Century New Town development. We also collect contemporary objects. We celebrate Crawley's communities today through our oral history collections, temporary exhibitions and community engagement projects. Items on permanent display include our 1903 Rex Forecar and a Bronze Age sword. We also have a temporary exhibition space.
I recently visited Crawley Museum and had a fantastic experience! The museum has a charming and welcoming atmosphere, with a well-curated selection of exhibits that tell the rich history of Crawley. I was particularly impressed by the interactive displays that brought the past to life, and the detailed information provided next to each artifact added a lot to my understanding of the local history. The museum is well-maintained, with clean facilities and a cozy seating area where you can take a break. Accessibility is also excellent, with ramps and clear signage throughout the building. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, offering insights and answering all my questions. They also provide guided tours, which I highly recommend for a deeper dive into the exhibits. I attended a family-friendly workshop during my visit, which was both educational and fun. It's great to see a museum that caters to visitors of all ages. Located in the heart of Crawley, the museum is easy to find and there's ample parking nearby. It's also close to several other attractions, making it a perfect stop on a day out. Overall, Crawley Museum is a wonderful place to explore and learn about the local heritage. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors!
To be honest I had an open mind as to if it would be any good and with an afternoon free I went to check it out. It's free and they only request you give a small donation. A modern museum staffed by a handful of volunteers, which provides an interesting history of the town. Well laid out and presented exhibits. I liked it.
Lovely little museum, free entry (donations appreciated but optional). Explorer backpacks for kids, plus dressing up and various interactive displays. The Stegosaurus was great, but isn't a permanent display.
