(Tearoom 9.30am - 4pm) Cressing Temple Barns is an evocative site rich in ancient history, set in glorious Essex countryside close to the towns of Witham and Braintree. Gifted to the Knights Templar in 1100s and now home to two stunning Grade I listed barns, it is the perfect place for your weddings, celebrations and conferences .
Well kempt large barns with local history and art exhibition. Lovely walled garden with plants to buy. Cafe is great for coffee and cake. Well worth a visit.
Lovely place we stopped at on our way back from a little holiday break. So interesting & the tudor garden is so well kept. The cafe/tea rooms are great . The history in these old buildings is definitely worth a visit & it's free entry. Amazing.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch, being looks after by very friendly and helpful staff, then enjoyed a walk around the grounds looking at the wonderful historic buildings and beautifully kept gardens
Lovely out the way location. To go and switch off very interesting place with a great tea room for lunch or a snack.
Went on a quiet Wednesday afternoon as passing by. What a wonderful historical Tudor site. Lovely cafe that was packed when we arrived. Lots of history on display. The place is immaculate! Also has several areas for music, concerts and exhibitions in amazing (and huge) old barns. Definitely worth a visit and it's free to enter
I've visited this lovely historical site on both a craft fair weekend and a normal open day. Both were good ways to see the barns. It is wonderful to see the innards of these beautiful buildings. It's always intriguing to try to understand how they were built, how the trees were cut for it, how the carpenters put the connections in the right places, and so on. The recent craft fair run by Charles Owens Event was very well done. Three marquees full of craft and artisan stalls. Lots of food for hungry bellies having spent a lot of pennies. They also used the barns, which were quite atmospheric. On a usual open, the quietness of the location is a treat. The Tiptree cafe (one of several around Essex) is well placed and good menu.
