This 88-foot-tall tower stands as a memorial to the soldiers who died in World War I. Designed by architect F. Osborne Smith, it was built in 1923 using local limestone and features a simple, yet striking design. The tower's façade is adorned with a series of bronze plaques, each bearing the name of a soldier who lost their life in the war. The monument offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside from its observation deck, which can be accessed via a spiral staircase.
Lovely place to visit. Peaceful and carefully looked after. PS1.50 to park a car and 50p per person to go up the tower. Both honestly boxes
Went to see the beacon lighting for the D-Day commemoration. Free entry but a PS1.50 charge for parking via the honesty box. Cafe is very small as they don't normally get many visitors, but that being said, they coped very well. There are very good paths, although they are very steep, so perhaps not the best place for wheelchair uses. Beautiful kept grounds and fantastic views. Well worth a visit if in the area.
A place I've been meaning to visit now for years. Most of my Ancestors were Sherwood Foresters, in WW1 and WW2 and Crich Tower (or Stand) was built in memory to ALL Foresters! There's a little cafe which (although i didn't visit this time) looked very popular, but the views from The Stand are breathtaking! I'll be back soon!
Lovely sunny afternoon when we visited, just sitting and looking over fantastic views. You can climb the tower for even better vistas when it's open. There is parking and many memorial benches to sit and look. There are well maintained grassy banks to sit and picnic if you have children and also a tea shop is available if the weather is not so good.PS1.50 to park and 50p to go up the tower. A honesty box is there for you to pay and/or make a donation.
I have been past the site so many times, this time I wanted to see what it was like. The weather was perfect. The grounds are immaculate. The toilet and cafe the same. The climb to the top of the tower is not too bad, the view from the top is well worth the climb. It's just a lovely place to visit.
An absolutely brilliant landmark that's maintained by lovely staff. The tea room is a hidden gem and serves home made cakes and savouries. You must visit here.
