Nestled in the heart of the Lake District National Park, the Crook O Lune Picnic Site is a picturesque spot surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by the gentle flow of the River Brathay, which runs alongside the site. The area is dotted with mature trees, providing shade and shelter for visitors. A large grassy area, perfect for picnics and relaxation, stretches out towards the riverbank, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains.
Was in the area and paid the Crook O Lune a visit today. On entering there are two car parks, a hut selling snacks and picnic benches, some of which overlook the river. On a warm summer's day, as was today, this is a great location to walk along the river, dog walk, walk through woodlands or sit and be surrounded by nature. The path down to the river (from the car parks and picnic area) is narrow and declines. This could be unsuitable for disabled people or those in wheelchairs etc. The car park is pay and display, however currently the machines are out of order. A beautiful location which I would recommend for relaxing and countryside views.
Used to enjoy coming here for food and a nice walk with the dogs, however it's become dangerous with all the cyclists speeding past without sounding their bell, then swearing at us. One almost clipped our dog last week so we won't be visiting again. Such a shame a few ignorant cyclists have to ruin it by making it unsafe for people.
It's clean & tidy there are toilets and a cafe that has out side seating. Note it's cash only. The views of the river are stunning and is the starting point for several local walks. There is also a footpath that keeps you off the road to the local village which has a couple of pubs and shops. I would recomend the Ship Inn for lunch.
A very nice spot to enjoy a picnic on a sunny day. Its a public park, free of charge (not sure if the parking is free, tough). During summer people use to swim here since the water is clean and shallow. Just beware of the rocks under your feet (best to go with sneakers). There is no restaurant nearby, so bring your own food and drinks. You can also get here by bus or car, but we came on foot - its a nice path by the river Lune from the city of Lancaster (about an hour of easy trekking). Don't forget your hats and sunblock! It's a dog and kids' friendly place. Hnit: the further you go, more privacy you get. Under the bridge is usually packed.
Good place to park, PS1 for the day. The walks are here are fun, picturesque scenery and not too many people around even on a busy days. There are so many routes to take.
Very nice place for a walk and some great views! It was helped by the snow that was around, it makes everything that little bit better in my opinion but would have been great without regardless. Recommend for a day out.
