The grounds are accessible. There is currently no visitor access to the abbey. Climb the impressive gatehouse tower for a bird's eye view of one of the most complete medieval abbey complexes in Scotland. Now hauntingly beautiful, its substantial ruins guard some violent secrets. One abbot was roasted over a fire by a nobleman seeking to seize the abbey's land and revenues.
Lovely well kept Abbey with friendly staff. It was not expensive to visit. Small carpark at the front. There is a toilet on site. We spend a good hour hear exploring with our family. They were also exploring packs that the children could borrow while visiting (such a great idea). Highly recommend and would happily return if we were in the area again!
Amazing ruined abbey reasonably priced. Free for Historic Scotland or English Heritage members. Good for 30-60 minutes walk and Explore. Mostly even grass surfaces, but you can climb to the top of the tower over the gatehouse. Friendly and knowledgeable staff on the gate. Toilet facilities, but not large enough for a cafe.
What a wonderful and well-presented place! Our family had a lovely time walking around the Abbey and soaking in all of the interesting history. Even though most of it is in ruins, it's still a very beautiful place. Informational placards are everywhere and the gentleman working there was a very friendly wealth of information too. My little girl even learned of a connection between the Abbey and mermaids from him! A very delightful stop that we definitely recommend and would absolutely visit again.
Beautiful monastery of the 13th century. Some parts date from the 14th, 15th and even 16th century. Sadly you can't go in at the moment because of savety procedures. Still nice place to visit.
Stumbled on Abbey driving past.whilst on holidayin Scotland, a gatekeeper came to greet us and left us to walk around. We could only walk around outside of building as fenced of for safety reasons, but you could still feel the history, fascinating place.. free to park and visit.
Old ruined Abbey. Paul, the guide was knowledgeable and friendly. It's gated off at the moment due to dangerous masonry but still worth a walk around.
