The Culsh Monument is a striking stone monument located in the Scottish Highlands, near the village of Newtonmore. This 16th-century monument commemorates the 1746 Battle of Culsh, where Jacobite forces clashed with government troops. The monument stands 30 feet tall, comprising a square base, a tapering shaft, and a pyramidal top. Its rugged, weathered appearance blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.
Great monument built to commemorate a local Liberal MP who did much good for the area. The building is accessible from a side gate inside the cemetary at the back left side. The best place to park is outside the cemetary gates or by walking around the corner to the monument gates. The keys to let you climb up inside the tower are available from the village shop by the post office for PS5 deposit. The views are great on a clear day, you can see the white horse on Mormond Hill and the ruins of Fedderate Castle which are both also worth a visit
Beautiful landscape & such lovely architecture with the graveyard there it was just a fantastic area.
Beautiful location and interesting history. Too bad the stairs were locked. Still well worth visiting.
Good views. Let is available from the chemist in New Deer. Take care as higher levels are a bit of a mess due to the birds getting in.
Nice building in a nice setting. Good view of Fedderate Castle and The Mormond Hill White Horse.
Lovely monument with perfect well kept grounds and adjacent war graves
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
