Museum covering the history of the infantry regiments affiliated with Cumbria from 1702 through the present day. The museum was moved to its current location in 2014 and re worked into a modern display space that still manages to tell the story using many of the objects from the museums vast collection. A good family friendly display and interpretation with the story of the regiment's histories told by the objects, medals and Audio Visual displays. Located within the outward of the walls of Carlisle Castle the museum in the building called Alma can also cater for small groups and parties in a manner of ways.
A small museum about the history of the regiments that were based here at the castle, very interesting exhibits to look at like Boer Wars and the two World Wars. They had a temporary exhibition about the 80th anniversary of the battle of Arnhem, which was nice to look through, and the museum cafe was lovely also. Plus, entry to the museum was included with our visit to the castle, which was an extra bonus.
Great little museum in the grounds of Carlisle castle, free to visit once you've paid to visit the castle, we are English Heritage members so entry to the castle is free. If your at the castle and Tony is doing one of his free tours make sure your on it!
A Great little museum. The museum relates to the history of Cumbria's County Infantry Regiment, the Border Regiment and the King's Own Royal Border Regiment and local Militia.
Great place much more to see and do than in the castle itself.
The Museum is really interesting. Had relative who was stationed at the castle in the 19th century.
Very impressed. There are so many interesting things in there.
