WELCOME TO DAGGER CAMPING AND OUTDOOR PURSUITS Based near the rural village of Clutton, we offer wild camping, foraging courses, clay pigeon shooting and outdoor fitness training. We are one of the UK's most loved wild campsites; "Dagger woods is such a great place to camp. We went to Dagger Woods over Easter weekend for our first wild camping. It is in the perfect location away from enough to feel secluded but not a drag to get to and from. There are plenty of pitches to choose from though, for whatever style of camping you wish to choose. I recommend parking up and having a wonder before you settle on the pitch, each one has its unique advantage."
Liked: I like the fact that the campsite offers a choice between forest floor and tent pitches. I tend to use a hammock so the woods are a perfect place to hang . I also like the fact that check in and out is at any time. The Hunters Rest pub serves very good food and is a pleasant walk away. Disliked: The British weather.
Liked: One of the best campsites we've come across! We received a welcome email before our arrival with all the information we needed on the campsite - Along with a map of the layout of the pitches which was extremely helpful when we arrived late as the pitches are all nestled away. There's a great mix of forest pitches too! We were camping as a family in a large tent and found the most suitable pitch to be Pitch14. This was perfect for us as you could park next to your tent - other pitches would require a walk, some up hills/through alot of greenery which would've been tricky with alot of camping gear, but wouldn't be a problem for those who pack a lot lighter than we do. The pitches are all clearly marked and have benches and fire areas ready for arrival. There's several composite toilets around the site, along with a caravan in the main carpark to collect wood etc. It's a really quirky and unique campsite, we thought the gym area was so cool! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Liked: Amazing site with very private pitches. You really felt in the middle if nowhere and had the opportunity to get back to nature. The showers were cold but a welcome wake up in the mornings. Check in and out was easy. We wanted to stay an extra night and Henry the camp manager was on hand to sort this no problem. My partner and children loved the outdoor gym - a fab added bonus! Disliked: Nothing
Liked: Flexibility, great communication, really helpful owner, back to the outdoors, alfresco showers, having compost toilets. Minimalist. Outdoor fitness area. All was as anticipated from the website. We had hammock and small tent which was perfect for the site we chose. We also had a trolley, which coped well with the tracks/paths to get our equipment to site. The owner was really helpful and recommended some sites, and was also available to help take kit to the site if necessary. Itemised ratings are only low because the topic does not reflect what this site is about and is not a criticism of the site.
Liked: The site was great. Henry was really friendly and would go above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The kids loved it as it was a place to get back to nature and really spend quality time together. The facilities were great, don't let the cold showers put you off as they added to our experience and the gym was a nice touch too. It was an absolute bargain, we had the best time and will definitely be coming back in the summer. Having the freedom to choose your own pitch was an added bonus as all the pitches were a good size and all in great locations around the site Disliked: Not a dislike just a note to bring insect repellent
Liked: We love staying at Dagger wood. The owner is always helpful, friendly and able to accommodate my son with a suitable pitch for his wheelchair. The site is lovely and always kept tidy, including the loos. The caravan and gnome hunt are a firm favourite with our group, along with cooking marshmallows and potatoes on the fire pit! We will be back again next year! Disliked: None
