Dean Castle Country Park is a fantastic free day out for all the family. The country park, covering over 200 acres, is nestled in the heart of Kilmarnock and offers something for the whole family to enjoy. The 14th century castle (currently closed for renovations) was the home and stronghold of the Boyd family for over 400 years. Visit the Rural Life Centre where you can learn more about sustainable living and enjoy some beautiful woodland walks, learning more about the history of the estate and spotting local wildlife along the way. Children can run wild in the adventure playground and explore the Urban Farm to meet our farm animals. Events take place throughout the year and there is a Cafe and Visitor Centre on site
This was one of my best experiences in Scotland. This beautiful park and premises of Dean Castle offers a lovely museum which you can walk through the castle, up into different chambers and floors. The docents were very knowledgeable and we had a good conversation with one about this castle and the history of the area. Have a lovely cafe and wildlife in the park. There's a bridge that goes over a running river. The park is children and dog friendly. Even the cafe food and customer service was very nice. I would love to come back to this place once again. I forgot to mention there is no entrance fee.

This is an excellent dayout only 30 mins drive from glasgow. A beautiful forest park surrounds the very unique 14th century castle with its palace and keep. There are several walking trails to explore,each with its own theme. There is a heavy accent on Children's activity A beautiful river runs through the park and there is a large, wildly overgrown pond. The treetops cafe has excellent sandwiches and cakes and is very readonable. Staff are very helpful.Some paths are steep and not too suitable for the elderly or people with mobility issues. Best news is its all free. Go see and enjoy.

Great place for the family. Recently refurbished and now open to the public. Almost all the trails have an accessible version which meant using a buggy was fine for it. Good playpark with good equipment and nice bit of nature. The cafe was reasonably priced and offered a decent selection of sandwiches. Recommend a visit.

Good to see plenty of bins available, and a free entry to the castle is a pleasant way to spend another hour. Nice way to spend an afternoon, but better for good weather.
