Interactive exhibits & a submarine depicting the dockyard's role with the Royal Navy since 1300.
A thoroughly fascinating place crammed full of memorabilia and ephemera about the Royal Navy and the dockyard at Devonport. It's a surprisingly large place, with exhibits over several floors and across different buildings. What it lacks in slick modern presentation it more than makes up with heart and enthusiastic volunteers who are more than happy to talk and explain the exhibits.
Well worth a visit. So many interesting things to look at. Run by volunteers with years of experience, who are happy to talk about the exhibits at length if you would like that. They work on a donation basis so make sure to pop some money in the pot.
Excellent museum, really good guided tour and full of interesting exhibits. Nice cup of coffee, very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. Definitely recommend
Great little museum with a wide variety of exhibits and helpful, knowledgeable volunteers.
Since Wednesday was the last day of opening this year, I drove from Gloucestershire to visit the museum for the first time. I was not disappointed. The volunteers were helpful and very knowledgeable. The sights and smells brought life back into memory from all those years ago! Thank you for a cracking display! I'll be back next year!
Plymouth must be proud of this museum, it ticks all the boxes: Welcoming and friendly, a first trip entertains for well over an hour. When leaving we started to plan the return visit. A knowledgeable guide (Drew) navigated us round with lots of discussion. There'll always be locals with memories of Devonport to illuminate further. Children will love the models and periscope. If that wasn't enough, there's free parking, a friendly and very reasonable cafe and clean toilets. It's all staffed by volunteers who understand how to run an operation.
