Dick Turpin's Grave is a historic grave located in York, England, United Kingdom. The grave marks the final resting place of Richard Turpin, a notorious English highwayman who was executed in 1739. The grave is a simple stone monument with an inscription that reads "Dick Turpin, 1739" and is situated in the northwest corner of York Minster's cemetery. Despite being a humble grave, it attracts visitors due to Turpin's infamous reputation as a daring thief and his romanticized portrayal in literature and popular culture.
Took me a while to find as it is located at the back of the area, as seen in the photo, but then easy to access and interesting. There is a board explaining the somewhat dubious activities of the late Mr Turpin
Tucked away in a quiet corner of York with an information board telling the latter part of his story. Tastefully done.
A fabulous location and a great historical treat packed into a small location, however, with a plaque of information as well as other interesting graves to see!! Around 30 minutes is plenty to take in this must-see historical setting. Christopher
Easy to find using Google maps but Tucked away behind a small church with an information board telling the latter part of his life. Tastefully done without the bells and whistles
Had to seek the grave out after seeing Horrible Histories years ago. Not in the best place in regards to markings, but it's not hard to find via google maps. The graveyard is rather dingy and unkept but, c'mon, you go there just for this guy. Anywhere in York is an easy walk and this is no exception.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I'm sure it's the only standard upright headstone in the graveyard.
