A picturesque lock on the Dilham Canal, a tranquil oasis in the Norfolk Broads, where colorful boats and vessels navigate through the calm waters, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers, as the sound of birdsong and gentle lapping of the water against the banks create a serene atmosphere.
We visited the North Walsham & Dilham Canal via the 3 1/2 mile circular walk starting from the small car park on Chapel Road at East Ruston. We picked up the Weavers Way and walked via the old railway line to Dilham Lock where we picked up the canal line. We followed the canal pleasantly through the trees and fields to the lovely restored/rebuilt Tonnage Bridge and back through the field to the car park. Thoroughly enjoyable walk and great to see the disused canal in water. Highly recommended circular walk through open countryside alongside a beautiful waterway.
Went in April. Lovely area but very muddy. Portage available for canoe and sups.
Lovely place to kayak especially on a summers evening. The lock can be a bit tricky to find but when you do it's well worth it. There are only enough parking spaces for 3 to 4 cars max so be mindful. I normally go from the lock up past weyford Bridge then back again. Once you go past the bridge towards Neatishead it can get quite busy with larger boats so if you want to avoid that just go up to bridge. It really is a nice place to kayak with loads of wildlife and in the evenings it is not so busy.
Really pretty and interesting. Well worth a visit. Lots of well signed walking to be done using various footpaths and the Weaver's Way
Muddy as hell and the lock I broken
Beautiful canal to go down, many types of birds to see. Loved seeing the Kingfishers.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
