Dinas Castle is a medieval fortress situated in the valley of the River Dulas in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Powys, Wales. The castle's ruins date back to the 12th century, featuring a mix of stone and earthwork constructions. Its strategic location allowed it to control the surrounding valleys and trade routes. The castle's architecture showcases a unique blend of Norman and Welsh influences, with a rectangular keep, curtain walls, and a surrounding moat. Despite being partially ruined, Dinas Castle still exudes an air of grandeur, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
A climb up a steep hill is rewarded with fantastic view's and the remains of a mediaeval castle.
We stayed one night here while walking and for the price, couldn't expect more. The host Julie was so lovely, the food isn't fancy but was home-made, tasty, generous and cheap. It's definitely not anything fancy. But comfy beds, clean, good power shower, and frankly, cheap as chips. Great stop for walkers.
An amazing view when you get to the top!
Steep walk but worth every step. Extra nice as my wife an I got married at a castle dinas (iron age castle/hillfort) in Cornwall. So was nice to see another..
No one seems to know about this place. I read about it in an obscure book published 30 years ago. Stopped by many local places and not many jave heard of it. Sits on a commanding position at the mouth of a narrow valley. Breathtaking view.
Very steep hike straight up the hillside but well worth it for the view. Large iron age hillfort with the overgrown remains of a Norman castle.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
