A tranquil oasis in the heart of the countryside, Doctor's Mill Gardens & Tea Rooms is a charming destination that offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The gardens are a masterpiece of horticultural design, featuring a stunning array of flowers, shrubs, and trees that create a kaleidoscope of colors and textures. Meandering paths invite visitors to explore the gardens at their own pace, discovering hidden nooks and secret spots along the way. The tea rooms, housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century mill, serve up delicious homemade treats and refreshing beverages in a cozy, rustic-chic setting.
Lovely place to stop off at. PS5 per person entry fee but worth it as from here after browsing round the pretty gardens you can walk to the Speke's Mill Mouth Waterfall, just walk out the drive way of the mill, turn left, then take the 1st left, then a short way down on the right you will see a sign for a public footpath, follow this straight and you can't miss it. It's a nice walk and only took us 20 minutes with our small dog and the waterfall is stunning (if you don't ming heights)
I walked from Blackpool Mill which was not easy and unlike many of the previous reviewers was lucky enough to find it open. The cafe is mostly outdoor seating in a sheltered spot but if you have no dog you'll be able to warm up inside by the log burner. It has very clean toilets and sells fantastic cakes the coffee and walnut sustained me all the way back! It's a garden cafe so food is basic but lovely. The gardens even on a dour April day are magical. They are set around a stunning small canal with beautiful magnolia trees. Yes it's slippy and vertiginous in places but that's what makes it so beautiful. Ignore the negative reviews and enjoy the atmosphere.
Special little place, friendly staff and great food & drinks. Very nice place with a nice circular walk through the gardens.
The tea room itself is fantastic, in a cozy setting and scones so soft and fresh you might never like any other scones after this. Very friendly service and incredibly fair prices given the amazing quality of the food. The only thing I would not recommend is the garden itself, don't get me wrong it's pretty in some places but for the most part nothing to write home about and can be completed in under 15 minutes and given the 5 pound price rag, you're better off just spending that in the tea room.
Beautiful setting, friendly staff. Food good, could be more salad ( doesn't cost much!) and the bread could be local artisan bread, rather than supermarket processed white baguette.. Devon crab was delicious, cakes were delicious and we didn't feel rushed though it was fairly busy when we visited x
A hidden little gem! The afternoon tea was delicious, we had crab sandwiches and freshly baked scones with clotted cream. But the reason to visit is to see the beautiful converted mill and gardens. You could spend a whole afternoon there wondering up to the weir and down to the waterfall and beach. The owner was so welcoming, the work they have put into making such a beautiful place, they should be very proud.
