Dorich House Museum at Kingston University London is the former studio home of the Russian Sculptor Dora Gordine and her husband the Hon. Richard Hare. We close for the summer on 24 July and reopen 1 September.
I absolutely loved this little museum. A fascinating place, wonderful art and architecture. Also a brilliant presentation of the story of Dora and Richard and the creative home they built together. Also a small cafe and bookshop; we had tea and cake whilst browsing some wonderful books. Ring the doorbell and enter the 1930's... Parking available.
It would be better if they can update that the museum will be closed from 21 July to 5 September on Google map, but not only on their website. I also met other visitors on the day I visited. We all don't know the museum is closed.
Took our 5 MONTH BABY, perfect for a short trip to get out the house. Friendly staff, very clean, nice and warm. Lots of sculptures and art work to enjoy. Interesting history and the house is beautiful. Could have stayed longer by enjoying the garden, reading all the information and have a tea etc. Parking available.
Lived within a few miles of this place for years and finally visited. It's really interesting, Dora led a very slightly wild and interesting life, great to see the studio, living space etc just as it was for her and Richard, well worth a visit. The coffee, tea+ cake are great value and worth having at the end of your visit, and the staff are very nice there.
The most wonderfully knowledgeable and passionate team who provided us with a tour of the museum were delightful. The story of the artist Dora, her travels and her skills as an artist were fascinating and to be able to see some of the sculptures was a privilege. Can't recommend highly enough.
I visited here in September 2022. It is an interesting little museum focusing on its former owners, the sculptor Dora Gordine and her husband, the Hon. Richard Hare, a scholar of Russian art and literature. It is easy to reach on public transport with frequent buses stopping closeby
