More of the Museum's internationally significant collections of archaeology, art, literature, geology, natural and social history will be on display than ever before. Reimagined galleries have been designed and curated to inspire, with Dorset's stories creatively interpreted using beautiful, objects, hands-on interactive displays, and stunning audio-visual presentations. All contained within an architecturally striking, ecologically sustainable new building. The new Dorset Museum also places accessibility at the heart of the visitor experience with wheelchair access, toilets, baby changing facilities, and Changing Places Toilet.
Having been to a few regional museums with hit and miss experiences so I kept my expectations in check when my daughter asked to go. I'm so glad we did this is an absolute gem of a museum in a stunning environment. The exhibitions blend audio and visual experiences with interactive and tactile exhibits that that entire family enjoyed. Subjects and topics are interesting and the information skillfully presented and well labelled where appropriate. Great value as a ticket lasts a year! We will definitely go back this summer and I would advise anyone else to.
Visited on the 1st of April 2024 with my partner and our children. The museum manages to pack a large and impressive collection in to a user friendly space. It will take a good couple of hours to look around and more if you wish. There's something of interest for everyone here. Entry price is very reasonable and children go free.
Very nice coffee shop in the town center. Good variety of food and nice coffee with soya and oats choice for alternative milk. Good service and cleanliness. Beautifil decoration and painting. Lovely old pictures on the walls.
Informative and robust in exposition museum, plenty of stories to see there. Loved the visit.
Dorset Museum is an exceptional venue, both for temporary exhibitions, and for the quality and range of the permanent exhibits housed within a beautifully renovated and refurbished space. The quality of light and space is wonderful. The cafe is charming, serving light lunches, cakes etc, and the gift shop stocks beautiful cards. Delightful
Fabulous! The outside entrance doesn't do it justice. Very well designed and curated, and a very friendly welcome in the cafe. Loved the Muntz, Frink and Hardy exhibit. PS14 for 1 yr access! I am definitely coming back.
