We are a stunning historic family owned exclusive use venue in the scenic Scottish Borders offering accommodation for up to 23 in castle and a further 28 in our characterful holiday cottages. perfect for weddings private parties and celebrations. Warmth and hospitality. one hour from Edinburgh and Newcastle with good rail road and air options. Many local attractions and guidance and planning assistance from dedicated administrator. access to beautiful 1500 acre private estate with lake woods and parkland
I park near the East entrance (top of Castle St) and walk up through through the arched entrance and up the forest path on the right (a worthwhile detour to Duns Law containing the Covenanters stone is well worth the time and extra altitude This marks the spot where, in 1639, General Sir Alexander Leslie and his Covenanter Army raised their standard. It is also possible to determine the outline the old Duns Law settlement and fort) continue through the woodland path and then down the hill across the field to the lake. It's a lovely spot and a lot of dog walkers (like me) enjoy the woodland walks. Avoid the castle ground as it is private. Beware: some paths (eg Colonel's walk) are still blocked by fallen trees post Storm Arwen!! but the estate has made great inroads in clearing up after the storm. Highly recommend.
Nice country estate which allows access for walks or horse riding, no vehicle access unless on estate business. Duck pond (no feeding bread to the ducks, it's not healthy).
Lovely walks round the estate. This time we climbed the hill to the Covenanter's Stone. Stunning views
Stayed here a week. Amazing staff and owners. Highly recommend!
Great place to fundraise at an event. Some fab cars on show.
I had the MOST magical wedding at Duns Castle. We hosted 40 guests from the States for 3 nights in the castle as well as 4 cottages on the grounds. It was beyond everything we imagined and is even more gorgeous in person. I only wish we had had more time here! Our guests were treated to amazing catering by Regis (highly recommend!), archery on the grounds, the beautiful cows who often visited near the castle, GetKnotted florist and the beyond wonderful staff at Duns. Andrea Hickory was the most magnificent coordinator. I simply could not have done anything without her. Always prompt to reply, answered every question, granted every request -- the best coordinator and even lovelier person! Mr. and Mrs. Hay were proud to show off their beautiful home and so accommodating. We loved Louis, Lorraine and Regina! They were the absolute best. Louis poured the best drinks and our guests absolutely loved him! Lorraine was the absolute sweetest, the rooms were tidy and clean and she helped serve the most wonderful bridal party breakfast in my room. Regina helped with our breakfast, making sure everything was all set as well as pouring drinks at our wedding breakfast. Andrea, Louis, Lorraine and Regina's enthusiasm was so appreciated -- so delightful to be around and so helpful with everything! Our guests would come back just to hang out with them! I cannot recommend Duns Castle enough, whether for your own wedding or just a weekend with friends. The grounds were fabulous and the town had it's own charm. The Horn Inn stayed open late in town for our guests, a few friends and I caught a tennis match on tv at the Black Bull and my mom and I had a great lunch at Hugo's Wine bar. My husband and I hope to come back to Duns for another celebration some day! Rooms were comfortable, beautifully decorated and the service was simply beyond! Thank you, Duns!
Wheelchair-accessible car park
