Perched atop a rocky outcrop, Dunskey Castle is a 14th-century fortified tower house situated in the rolling hills of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This medieval stronghold boasts a rugged, rectangular shape with four storeys, its stone walls rising dramatically from the landscape. The castle's architecture is characterized by narrow windows, a machicolated battlement, and a distinctive crow-stepped gable. Despite lying in ruins, Dunskey Castle still exudes an air of historic grandeur, its crumbling facade a testament to the region's rich cultural heritage.
A lovely short walk to the castle and a good place to spend about 20-30 minutes (even longer really). Views are really lovely. Please be aware that the access is via a very steep pathway and can be challenging if you are not used to steep and slightly uneven surfaces. Plenty of free parking at the bottom of the hill (Dunskey Street Carpark - height restriction of 6ft 6inches)
We Were staying in Portpatrick so there are two ways to hike to that castle. The path on the cliff side has lots of stairs but the views are worth it. Then take the valley road back its much easier. The castle is fabulous worth seeing Enjoy
Parking: parked in bottom carpark area of caravan park which is really good size and has charging points for vehicles. Short walk to the castle that could walk through. Warning: if have children with you please watch if they run upstairs as many openings with brick sections missing, leading to straight drops ( you will see in photos). Overall lovely place and would recommend. We walked along cliff to Portpatrick which took no time at all. For those less mobile there are a large amount of steps to go down into Portpatrick (and back up again) which I've included photos.
Absolutely stunning place , not sure where you are supposed to access this from but we drove onto the campsite and parked at the very bottom , if taking young children you must be careful as there are steep unfenced drops, at some time the whole castle has been fenced off but now it's accessible to all , very picturesque and photogenic,
Worth the visit. Not touristy, no shops or lots of noise; relaxing ocean views, peaceful country. Could walk down to the beach area but we choose not to. You'll get some really great pictures and selfies here for your holiday memoirs.
A gorgeous ruin well worth a visit! A very beautiful spot. Just a short walk about 5 minutes up hill, then along a narrow muddy track and a small bridge, the castle at the end is well worth visiting.
