Dunstall Castle is a medieval fortified manor house situated in Staffordshire, England. Built in the 14th century, the castle features a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic and Tudor elements. The castle's stone walls are punctuated by tall, narrow windows and a prominent gatehouse with a portcullis. The castle's interior boasts ornate wooden paneling, intricate stone carvings, and grand fireplaces. Although it has undergone several restorations, Dunstall Castle retains much of its original charm and character, offering a glimpse into the lives of medieval nobility.
Definitely worth stopping off if you have time but no parking.
I had no idea this existed until I drove past it. This ruined castle / folly is well worth stopping for and having a look around. The ruins are situated on the side of the road just outside the village of Dunstall. There is a bit of room to park up on the side of the road by the ruins. It only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to look around the site and take pictures. Looking forward to reading up on this ruin to learn its history.
Nice little folly, looks great as been partially restored. Would love to visit and go inside too!
Great place to stop, right on the edge of the road. The castle is a half-ruined building and it takes about 10 minutes to inspect it. If you visit this place in the summer, I highly recommend putting on pants, because tall grass grows around the castle.
If you go on one of the open days & the weather is good you can see for miles. A rather awkward clamber up & off a ladder & a short climb up a narrow spiral stairway are worth it for the views.
I came across this charming folly as I cycled between Worcester and Tewkesbury. The structure left me full of wonder. I simply had to dismount my bicycle and take a closer look. Alone in the countryside, I marvelled at such a creation and I could only speculate on how this came to being and for what purpose it was erected. I am still only a little wiser...
Good for kids
